Patient left in extreme pain
Went to the surgery for routine review but at time had a bladder infection and was in lot of pain, got upset during consultation with nurse as felt soooo ill. Nurse did do a urine test but as it didn't show anything told me I couldn't have antibiotics...I a long term condition which when I get these episodes only antibiotics will clear it...the GP always gives me them and it clears up...I did tell the nurse this but didn't do any good. After a few more days of agony I phoned the surgery and this time spoke to a paramedic who did another sample. This time it showed something...had to still wait another 4 days of agony for the results to come back from hospital which showed an infection and I needed antibiotics which I had mentioned to the surgery in the first place. Previously a Doctor had always given me these straight away and prevented me having to suffer for 2 weeks...this is a dangerous slippery slope not letting patients have access to a Doctor when they need it...nurses or paramedics are not trained to deal with long term complex medical conditions. This is the second time now I've been fobbed off with a paramedic ( have to say the paramedic this time was good apart from leaving me another 4 days in extreme pain) ...last time the paramedic at the hospital dismissed me and falsified the medical records to cover his track)....I was a practice manager of a GP surgery for 20 years and to leave patients in extreme pain with no treatment is disgusting.
